KALIB BOONE

2017-18 MR. BASKETBALL

Just before signing his letter of intent to play basketball for Oklahoma State University, Memorial High School standout Kalib Boone was named the 2017-18 Mr. Basketball Oklahoma winner.

“It’s a great feeling because I didn’t know who many great players won this award and I’m just humbled and grateful to win it as a junior,” said Boone.

Boone, and his twin brother Keylan Boone, are headed to Oklahoma State upon graduating in 2019.

“It’s a blessing cause not a lot of people have a twin and I’m going take all of the advantage of it cause we’re unstoppable together,” said Boone.

That means this tandem has another year to hone their skills as Memorial Chargers. For Kalib, this team and his teammates are a big reason for his personal success.

“My teammates mean the world to me because without them I wouldn’t have won this and they bring out the best of me every practice and game,” said Boone.

Boone joins a talented list of former Mr. Basketball award winners that includes another player that won the award as a junior, Trae Young. Boone has the drive and desire to continue working hard and place himself in the running again next year to possibly join Young as a two-time winner of the award.

“Keep working because hard work pays off and earn everything you want because it means more and feels better when you do. And always thank your coaches and teammates,” said Boone.

Former winners of the Shelter Insurance Mr. Basketball Award include 2012-13 Stevie Clark, Douglas High School, 2013-14 Chauncey Collins, OKC Storm, 2014-15 Shake Milton, Owasso High School, 2015-16 & 2016-17 Trae Young, Norman North.
