On July 6, 2017 Tulsa, Public Schools’ Superintendent Deborah Gist, announced the appointment of Mathias Wicks as the district’s campus police chief, pending the appending approval of the school board. Wicks currently serves as Deputy Chief of Operations. Wicks will fill the position left vacant by Robert Swain last June.
Wicks holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Oral Roberts University, a master’s degree in management from Southern Nazarene University, and anticipates completing his doctorate in educational leadership this fall.
After more than 20 years as a detective with the Tulsa Police Department, Matthias joined campus police in 2015. He was instrumental in organizing the district’s 2016 Unite T-Town Rally for Peace In addition to his work throughout the district to ensure that Tulsa children, teachers, and staff learn and work in safe environments.
Gist said that “Matthias is committed to strengthening relationships and building understanding between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve – both in and out of the classroom. Outside of the work day, Matthias is a volunteer track and field coach and youth mentor. Matthias also serves Tulsa children and families as a member of the Mayor’s Police and Community Coalition.”
The Oklahoma Eagle reached out to Wicks for comment, however, he was not available at that time.
