The University of Oklahoma Urban Design Studio is working on a placemaking project with the Greenwood Cultural Center to reactivate BS Roberts Park. The public is invited to attend a community design workshop where you can meet the student project team, learn about the park, and offer ideas for park improvements. This event will be held at Langston University Tulsa, 914 North Greenwood Avenue, Tulsa, OK 74106 on Saturday, December 8th from 9 am to 12 pm. This is a come and go event. Pancakes will be served to the first 100 people.
B.S. Roberts Park currently holds a basketball court, a playground, one picnic shelter and a walking path that surrounds several detention ponds. It is near several educational institutions such as Langston, OSU-Tulsa, and Carver Middle School, as well as other attractions like the Osage Trail and the Greenwood Cultural Center. The park is located along Greenwood Ave, in the middle of the area destroyed by the 1921 Race Massacre, which is nearing its centennial.
The Urban Design Studio at OU-Tulsa’s (OUUDS) mission is to train urban design professionals through master’s degree programs in architecture and urban studies, to advance understanding of the city through research and creative activity and to engage in community projects benefiting Tulsa and Northeast Oklahoma.
