North Tulsa Economic Development Initiative To Host The Annual North Tulsa Back 2 School Extravaganza

The Oklahoma Eagle Newswire

Students and families are gearing up for the 15th annual North Tulsa Parent and Community Enrichment Extravaganza “Back 2 School” event at McLain High School on August 13 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Co-sponsored by Tulsa Teachers Credit Union, George Kaiser Family Foundation, ONEGas, American Heritage Bank, Tulsa Public Schools, the Honorable Kathy Taylor, and Sodexo, the event focuses on providing educational information and building strong partnerships with parents, stakeholders and concerned citizens.

The extravaganza highlights areas critical to providing a quality education, including: promoting safe learning environments; community support for education; connecting schools with families and the community, as well as encouraging increased parental involvement in their child’s education.

Our goal is to continually provide educational information and build strong partnerships with parents, stakeholders and concerned citizens supporting the McLain Feeder schools. The “Back 2 School” event provides an avenue for bringing the community together to receive and discuss information regarding Tulsa Public Schools offerings and educational enrichment services provided by our community schools.

This year’s extravaganza will include remarks from Integra Private Wealth Management founder Marquay Baul; TCC President Dr. Leigh Goodson; NTEDi President Dr. Lana Turner-Addison; TPS Superintendent Dr. Deborah A. Gist; TPS Board Member Jeannettie Marshall, and Tulsa Technology Center North Campus Director Randy Craven; and Tulsa Educare Executive Director Dr. Cyndee.

“We look forward to another great turnout for the Extravaganza, as it has become a back-to-school tradition for many North Tulsa families,” said Dr. Lana Turner-Addison. “It’s a fun afternoon event that allows parents, teachers and the community to become engaged in the education of our children.  As our district continues on a journey to Destination Excellence, it’s important that we all come together to support academic excellence for all students.”

Each school in the McLain feeder pattern will have a booth. Principals will be on hand to provide education and resource information for parents and students. Other booths will include community-based organizations, TPS employment opportunities, applications for the free and reduced-price meal program and PowerSchool demonstrations.
