Just as Janet Jackson promised -ahead of her 2nd tour stop in Houston, TX- she visited the survivors of a hurricane Harvey evacuation shelter. She along with her big brother, Randy Jackson- one of the siblings she’s most closest to- showed up with very sincere hearts for the families who were still housed at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
Most of the people at the shelter have lost everything and although many of them have received temporary hotel vouchers from FEMA, there is a new problem. According to ABC13-Houston News, the hotels there are not accepting the families, nor their vouchers:
“Even though she has a voucher in hand, there’s no place for her to go,” said GRB volunteer Kelly Banks. She says she’s called every hotel on the list.
(Videos) Janet Was Kind & Did Not Play The Superstar Role
Although the hurricane survivors are still in major need of help, it was beautiful to see their faces and spirits lifted -if only for a little while- when Janet and Randy showed up to the venue with Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner. Janet did not play the ‘superstar’ role, instead she decided to go into the individual living quarters of the families and talk to many of them separately, without a microphone, nor camera crew nearby to capture the conversation. She simply had heart to heart discussions with the people and they sincerely appreciated her for doing that. She later went into the main area of the convention center and stood by the mayor as he spoke to the crowd. Again, she was still very personable, as she shook hands with the people and even jumped into ‘mommy mode’ while holding and soothed a baby who was crying.
One evacuee said this about Janet’s visit:
(via ABC13) “Just to realize she’s kind, loving, concerned – you can tell she has great character like her late brother, Michael,” said a woman named Jackie staying at the shelter.
We couldn’t agree more, Janet Jackson, like her beloved brother, Michael Jackson, has always been known to have a very sincere heart and has committed herself to donating to various charities and foundations throughout her career.
In true Ms. Jackson fashion, she’ll be doing the same Saturday night (9-9-17), when she performs for the second stop on her ‘State of The World Tour.; She announced that she will be donating the proceeds from her Houston show to charities dedicated to Hurricane Harvey survivors. Job well done Ms. Jackson!
