Senator Kevin Matthews, a retired Tulsa Fire Department Chief Officer, is announcing his candidacy for County Commissioner, District 1. Matthews says his goals are to invest in public safety, revitalization of our crumbling roads and bridges, restoring accountability to county government, and working across party lines to find solutions.
Matthews has spent a lifetime in public service working on many community boards, volunteer service positions at his church, working in city government as Administrative Fire Chief of the Tulsa Fire Department with 25 years of Service, the State House of Representatives for three years, and The State Senate for the past three years, and multiple International organizations during his career, as a relationship builder and problem solver.
Matthews says his legislative experience and public safety background, heading the Fire Department Administrative Division at the city level of government, serving as Ranking Member of the Public Safety Committee, and on Economic Development and Financial Services Committee in the House of Representatives, coupled with State Senate services on Full Appropriations, General Government and Transportation Allocation and Budget Committees and the Bi-Partisan task forces and commissions that he leads, shows that he has the experience needed to hit the ground running in service to the people of Tulsa County.
