TULSA, OK, December 2, 2017- In response to the nation’s economic education crisis, students at Solid Foundation Preparatory Academy (SFPA) are preparing for their annual economics fair and asking supporters to “show them the money.”
Teachers and staff at SFPA emphasize an economic curriculum that focuses on teaching students the importance of money and how it affects the world we live in. “We love this program because it teaches the students the value of a dollar,” said School Administrator Jayme Broome. Students in grades PreK3 – 5th will utilize what they have learned about “money-making” and use their knowledge to fulfill a required assignment to create a cost-effective product to be displayed and sold at the fair.
Over the past month, students have learned about entrepreneurship and the difference between producers and consumers of goods and services. They have also learned about the utilization of natural, human and capital resources. Students have been tasked to operate as entrepreneurs by creating a materials list for their product, a budget, and prototype. They will also create advertisements through several forms of media, which will be on display at the fair.
“We are excited about this year’s fair. The students have really put their minds to work and have come up with really good ideas. Students are not just working for a grade, if the students end the day with a profit, they’ll receive their earnings, in cash,” says Broome.
The schools’ 11th Annual Economics Fair will be Saturday, December 2, 2017, from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at the 36th St. Event Center, 1125 E. 36 St. N., Tulsa, OK. This annual event is open to the public with a $2 donation. We encourage the Tulsa community to come out and support these young entrepreneurs.
