My Brother’s Keeper Tulsa (MBK) released its July report on its collaborations and upcoming initiatives.
MBK and WeCollab
MBK has partnered with WeCollab. WeCollab will be providing technical assistance to finalize and solidify the strategies developed by MBK’s community partners through the MBK Workgroup Series.
Milestone Workgroup Convening
In collaboration with WeCollab, MBK supported its partners by assisting them to clearly identify strategies, outline actionable next steps in their implementation, and determine key performance indicators to measure the impact of the strategies toward the milestones of MBK. The milestones are (1) Entering school ready to learn, (2) Reading at grade level by third grade, (3) Graduate from high school, (4) Complete postsecondary education or training, (5) All youth out of school are employed, and (6) All youth remain safe from violent crime.
Jay Ellis Returns to Tulsa
Actor and author Jay Ellis visited his hometown to introduce his new book, “Did Everyone Have an Imaginary Friend (Or Just Me)?” MBK is scheduled to take its students to the guest lecture and the book signing by Ellis. Tulsa Public Schools
MBK is offering programming to Tulsa Public Schools through its Sport Initiative. MBK is dedicated to supporting the students’ academic and personal endeavors and are working closely with TPS to implement targeted strategies to bolster boys and young men of color with the school district.
Union Public Schools
MBK has partnered with Union Public Schools to begin the implementation of new strategies aimed at supporting boys and young men of color to achieve key success milestones. (For a list of the milestones, see above “Milestone Workgroup Convening.”)
Youth All Stars Leadership Council
Youth All Stars Leadership Council is accepting applications for this year’s cohort. The first cohort will include students participating in a variety of activities during the school year. The paid opportunity for young men of color will develop leadership skills, engage in community service, and connect the students with mentors. My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Tulsa
My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Tulsa, an affiliate of the Obama Foundation, was selected as a MBK Alliance Model Community in 2023. Its goal is to lead a cross-sector national call to action focused on building safe and supportive communities for boys and young men of color (BYMOC).
