The 2017-2018 school year begins on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017, and Tulsa Public Schools are asking families to “Join the Fun 8/21” by planning ahead for a strong start to the year.
“We’ve got an exciting year of teaching and learning in store for our kids, and we’re eager to welcome Tulsa back to school on August 21,” said Superintendent Deborah A. Gist. “We hope that students will develop good attendance habits early in the year, and we encourage parents to talk with their children about the importance of getting to school on time every day. Students can fall behind even if they miss just a day or two every few months – every minute of learning matters.”
The district is asking families to complete the Join the Fun 8/21 Back to School Checklist to ensure that children are prepared to go back to school. The checklist is available online at www.tulsaschools.org/back2school and includes the following:
- Get enrolled: If your family is new to the district or if you’ve moved over the summer and have a new neighborhood school, make sure your child is enrolled before August 21.
- Check school bell-times: Visit www.tulsaschools.org/belltimes to make sure you know when the day starts and ends.
- Know the bus route: If your child will take the bus, visit tulsaschools.org/bus for pick-up times and bus stop locations. High school students can participate in TPSRides and use Tulsa Transit free of charge with student ID.
The district is also asking families to make sure students are enrolled before school starts. To accommodate working parents and guardians, the Enrollment Center will offer extended hours on the following dates:
- Saturday, Aug. 12 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
- Monday, Aug. 14 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
- Tuesday, Aug. 15 from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.
Families can also enroll during regular hours: Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Enrollment Center is located at 2819 S. New Haven Ave. in Tulsa, on the north side of the Education Service Center parking lot. Parents can also enroll children online at www.tulsaschools.org/enroll.
