On behalf of Black History Month, the Black Wall Street Market will be hosting its 6th Annual Black Wall Street Heritage and History Festival this coming Saturday, February the 16th at the 36th Street North Event Center at 1125 E. 36th Street North in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The month formally started as a week; Carter G. Woodson is credited as the creator of Negro History week. In 1976 the week was expanded to a month by President Gerald R. Ford.
Saturday we will be applauding our own local talent with performances from the Keeping It Real Band, African Drummers, Spoken Word, Suga Chic Glam Fashion Show, Speakers, Instrumental Artist, Dancers, Singers and so much more! This festival spurs us to seek out and lift up the best in Tulsa’s African American Accomplishments. There will be Vendors there to showcase their unique products and we are feeding the village a good home cooked meal.
The festival formerly held at Lacy Park has a theme this year of Celebrating Our Elders. There will be an honoring and celebrating of our community men and women that have made it to 90 years and older. A donation of five dollars to raise money to buy needed items to build up the Community Pride Farmers Market 5616 N. Osage Drive (same location as Black Wall Street Market) to teach our children to grow there on food in a food desert such as North Tulsa.
