Former Tulsa Public Schools Deputy Superintendent To Honor HOF Recipients, April 3 

The Booker T. Washington Distinguished Hall of Fame Foundation has announced Millard House II, superintendent of Prince George’s (Md.) County Public Schools, as the guest speaker at the dinner program on April 3. 

The annual event will honor its 2025 recipients from various fields, including the arts, business, education, faith, history, and sports. 

The program is scheduled for April 3 at 6 p.m. at the Greenwood Cultural Center, 322 N. Greenwood Ave. 

Before his current position, House was superintendent at Houston Independent School District, the nation’s eighth-largest district and the largest in Texas with 210,000 students. He previously served as director of schools for the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System in Tennessee, COO of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina, and deputy superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools.  

A 25-plus-year educator, he was the founder and principal of KIPP Tulsa College Preparatory Academy. At KIPP, his school became one of the community’s highest-performing and sought-after schools. He also served as executive consultant and executive director of New Leaders for New Schools. 

During House’s tenure as deputy superintendent in Tulsa, Anderson Elementary went from being designated one of the lowest-performing schools in Oklahoma to one of the highest-performing Title I schools in the state. 

House was recognized as the Tulsa Public Schools’ Principal of the Year, the first African American to receive the award, and was named Outstanding Administrator of the Year by the Tulsa Area Alliance of Black School Educators. 

He earned his master’s degree in school administration from Northeastern State University and his baccalaureate degree from the University of Montevallo (Ala.). He is also a Fisher School Leadership Program graduate at the Hass School of Business, University of California, Berkeley.

The 2025 alumni to be honored are Inez Black (Education), Kevin Lockett (Athletics), Nicole Lynn (Athletics), Sabrina Goodwin-Monday (Business and Professional), William “Bill” Nelson (Arts and Entertainment), J. Kavin Ross (Humanitarian and Service), Reginald “Ice” Terry (Lifetime Achievement), and Pastor LeRon G. West (Humanitarian and Service). 

Scholarships will be awarded to BTW High School senior students. Applicants must complete applications postmarked or submitted by March 26, 2025, at 4 p.m. to Ms. Zenobia Mayo, The Booker T. Washington High School Distinguished Hall of Fame, 1514 East Zion Street, Tulsa, OK  74106. Late applications will not be accepted. Seniors can apply through their Canvas and Xello accounts.
