New Beginnings Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is hosting “Celebrating: Disciples Women Trailblazers and Mentors” on Sept. 14, 12 p.m. The theme for the event is “Your Gift Will Make Room For You, Proverbs 18:16.” The luncheon program will be held at Harvard Avenue Christian Church, 5502 S. Harvard Ave. 

The program will honor Rev. Donna Jackson, pastor of New Beginnings Christian Church (DOC), and others. Jackson is the first Black woman to serve as a minister/pastor in the Oklahoma Disciples of Christ. 

Others to be recognized are Rev. Brenda Denson, senior pastor of Pine Street Christian Church (DOC); Rev. Dr. Lisa W. Davison, vice president, Johnnie Eargle Cadieux Professor of Hebrew Bible at Phillips Theological Seminary; Rev. Dr. Delesslyn A. Kennebrew, administrative secretary of National Convocation (African American constituency); Rev. Teresa “Terri” Hord Owens, general minister and president of the Christian Church (DOC) in the U. S. and Canada; Rev. Dr. Nancy Claire Pittman, president and Stephen J. England Associate Professor of the Practice of Ministry of Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa; and Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins, former general minister and president of the Christian Church (DOC). 

Additional program participants are the following: Rev. Dr. Joey Crutcher (Music), Pastor David Emery (Harvard Avenue Christian Church, Disciples of Christ), Trevor Rolland, Johnnie Mae Simmons, and Rev. AnDrea Skye-Walker (First Christian Church Stroud). Co-emcees will be Rev. Gina Jackson, senior pastor of South Grand Lake Christian Church (DOC) in Langley, Okla., and Yemaya Rodgers, Wildewood Christian Church in Oklahoma City. 

Sponsors of the event are New Beginnings Christian Church, Harvard Avenue Christian Church, Northeast Area Council, Oklahoma Disciples Foundation, and Phillips Theological Seminary.
