Hats off to Tulsa Juneteenth CEO Sherry Gamble-Smith this years Juneteenth 2022 festival offers more than just music there are Black Tech Panels and Wellness Awareness events and so much more. Tulsa Juneteenth Inc. and the Black Wall Street Chamber of Commerce Juneteenth Festival begins June 16th – June 18th on Greenwood Ave. The Tulsa Juneteenth Festival is a free public event.
Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States that took place on June 19th, 1865. The Tulsa Juneteenth Festival invites all to participate in this community event to celebrate and support Black culture, arts, and music. Tulsa Juneteenth Inc. extends a warm welcome to all to share in this time of celebration with us!
The Tulsa Juneteenth Festival has prepared a 3-day festival of live entertainment, art exhibition, wellness event, tech gathering, local market, with 35 plus businesses, 15 plus food trucks, Kids Zone and togetherness for people of all ages. The festival will take place June 16th – June 18th, 2022.
The celebration will commence on Thursday, June 16th at 6:00 pm on the Historical Greenwood Ave for the annual Tulsa Juneteenth Block Party featuring local performers and vendors. The “Wide Eyed Wonders” art exhibit will return with this year’s festival at the Henry Zarrow Center for Arts and Education featuring native visual artists and creative workshops. The Art Exhibit opening celebration begins at 4pm.
Friday, June 17th, the day will kick off with 35 plus innovative Black vendors, 15 plus food truck favorites, and the first Tulsa Juneteenth Entrepreneurial Experience. Working towards its mission to economically impact, connect and promote Black businesses and entrepreneurs, Tulsa Juneteenth Inc. is partnering with CLLCTVE to curate a series of entrepreneurial events, including the Black Tech Panel and the Greenwood Brunch. This year’s festival will present The Wise Men with local vocalists including Whesli, Tea Rush, and Koolie High to kick off Friday night with an infusion of soul-funk and R&B performances at 5:00pm on Greenwood Ave. The headliner for Friday night is Con Funk Shun! Con Funk Shun is an American R&B and funk band whose popularity began in the mid-1970s and ran through the 1980s.
Saturday, June 18th, join Tulsa Juneteenth for the free Sunrise Run and the annual Wellness Experience, I Am Here, a time of healing through journaling, meditation, yoga, movement, and community discussions at Guthrie Green curated by Bloom. As the day continues, Tulsa Juneteenth is excited to welcome children for a fun-filled time of surprises at Kids Zone; a safe space curated with live entertainment, face painting, basketball, trivia, live mural installation, free Swag bags, and several health and education activities at B.S. Roberts Park on Greenwood Ave beginning at 11:00am. Mainstage activities will begin at 5:00pm with local live entertainment including DJ Dr. View, Alexandria Nicole & TCB, Omaley B, and Soul Cool Band. The headliner for Saturday night is Dru Hill! Dru Hill is an American R&B group, whose repertoire includes soul, hip hop, soul and gospel music.
