Tyler Lockett’s “Light It Up Foundation” Job Shadowing Program recently sent twelve (12) Tulsa Public School students to Seattle, Washington to participate in a program that will expose them to multiple professions with three (3) different companies. The twelve (12) students were accompanied by twelve (12) guardians, which included two Tulsa Public School teachers, Ms. Brooke Randels (East Central High School) and Mr. Walter Williams II (Hale High School)

While in Seattle, the students will visit Virginia Mason Hospital/Kraken Community Ice Plex, the Seattle Seahawks 12 Headquarters, and The Keller Williams Real Estate Headquarters. The students will job shadow top minority and other leadership from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm each day in areas such as business, finance, kinesiology, IT, medicine, real estate, and other areas. On Wednesday, June 8th, the guardians will accompany the students to the Virginia Mason Hospital/Kraken Community Ice Plex to also experience the 9:00 am to 1:00 pm session.

On Tuesday, June 7th, all the students and guardians got the opportunity to visit and get a tour of Lumen Field, the home of the Seattle Seahawks. Students and guardians got a chance to see the entire operation that goes into preparing for 90,000 spectators in an actual Seahawk game.

One of the Tulsa Public School Employees that accompanied Diana Mercado (East Central High School) as a guardian, Ms. Brooke Randels, East Central High School, College and Career Readiness, stated that “Our students have been able to be exposed to many professionals and learn about all the opportunities there are professionally. Also, it has been amazing seeing their eyes being opened just to the world having the chance to travel to Seattle and see life lived differently that they know. This program is investing in them in a variety of ways”

This is the third year of Tyler’s “I Know I Can” Job Shadowing Program. In 2021, students did not travel because of CoVid-19. To compensate, Tyler awarded the twelve (12) 2021 students selected a ten-thousand-dollar ($10,000) scholarship to start their college life. The students that traveled to Seattle will receive a smaller scholarship, amount to be determined.

The Month of May has been extremely busy and rewarding for Tyler. In addition to his Job Shadowing Program, Tyler was selected Seattle Washington Male Sports Star of 2021, he won the Sports Emmy Award for his piece on the 1921 Race Massacre, and he was inducted into the Kansas State Ring of Honor. Also, Tyler was recognized as the only NFL receiver to eclipse at least seventy (70) receptions, one thousand (1,000) yards, and eight (8) touchdowns in the last three (3) years. Tyler also led the NFL with twenty (20) receptions of twenty (20) yards or more and five (5) touchdowns.
