A burial ceremony will be held Friday for the bodies removed from Oaklawn Cemetery in the search for mass graves.

Last month, the City of Tulsa announced archaeology experts completed the first phase of the investigation.

The 1921 Graves Public Oversight Committee along with the city and archaeology experts will inter 19 individuals.

The coffins were discovered where anomalies had been previously detected at the cemetery. Further efforts to determine the identities of those remains and their causes of death continue to be explored.

Funeral home records and other documents from 1921 show that at least 18 identified and unidentified Black Race Massacre victims were buried in the city-owned cemetery.
