Starting Monday, April 13, Tulsa Public Schools will provide educational television programming on the district’s TPS20 Cox channel and RSU-TV to support distance learning for students in grades pre-kindergarten through 8th. This programming covers educational topics ranging from phonics lessons, read-aloud in English and Spanish, math lessons, wellness/fitness programs, STEM education, and fine arts. The program offerings are designed to help supplement content areas that students normally have access to in their classrooms.
“We are working with community partners and our own classroom teachers to create programs to help keep students engaged and learning,” said Superintendent Deborah A. Gist. “It has been exciting to see our Tulsa-area companies and partners stepping in to support families, and I am confident our students and their families are going to benefit from this new way of learning.”
Tulsa Public Schools will use the district’s Cox cable access channel, TPS20, to provide content for pre-kindergarten through 8th, including daily read-aloud and math for each elementary grade level. These learning programs will air Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on channel 20.1 through May 15. The district will also air weekly segments for social emotional learning, physical education, and art and music.
In partnership with RSU-TV, learning programs will air live every Monday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on channel 35.1 through May 15. Classes will address core subject areas such as the arts, STEM, reading, physical education, as well as social emotional learning.
