In response to accelerated community needs, the Tulsa Dream Center, in partnership with Food on the Move Ok, GoFresh, and the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, will be hosting its 2nd grocery give away during the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week-the organizations impacted 5,000+ families, giving away approximately 1,000 boxes and bags of groceries.
The community-led assistance packages will be given away on Friday March 27th from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at Tulsa Dream Center, 200 W. 46th St. N. Organizers will be providing groceries to families in need. The groceries will include meat, produce, and dry goods. As a precaution, all volunteers will be equipped with sanitary gloves and masks. Volunteers will bring groceries to the cars of individuals attending. All volunteers will be adhering to health standards set forth by the Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Coordinators of this event have already began reaching out to new partnerships to advance this cause. Goodwin for Tulsa City Council District 1 2020 will seek to communicate when and where similar giveaways will occur either through press releases or through Facebook. This is the second event in as many weeks and Jerry Goodwin is optimistic that similar events will remain a priority to the community.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused widespread fear, panic buying, and ultimately food supply shortages for many families in the area. With the absence of a local grocery store here in north Tulsa, there is a real gap in the ability to obtain food necessities in a timely manner. Obviously, the food shortage is affecting many residents who I consider friends and family. It was a no-brainer for me to get involved, roll my sleeves up, and get to work. I’m proud of the response time and looking forward to partnerships that will aid the community in the coming weeks,” says Goodwin
Goodwin is also aiming to inspire and mobilize students who have recently shifted from campus sites to remote learning during the Coronavirus epidemic. Similar organizations throughout the country are launching comparable programs, In the coming weeks, Jerry Goodwin will continue fostering relationships and leading on the front lines to provide relief to his family and friends, especially to those who need it the most in the community.
