“Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet;

but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching

forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for

the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

(Philippians 3:13-14, NASB)

Everyone wants a Good Life!  Regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, faith preference, political affiliation, or educational background, everybody wants a Good Life!  This is something that people the world over have in common.  Growing up and down through the years, I would hear seasoned saints pray, “And Lord, when my days on earth are finished, let me look back upon a life well spent.”

What does it mean to live a life well spent? What constitutes having lived a good life?  To love life means to desire a full life, the abundant life Christ came to give.  This life consists of character, faith, and a desire to honor the Lord and is demonstrated by those who seek the Lord and want nothing less than His will for their lives.  Such a life overflows with the blessings of the Lord.

The life God gives is a serious thing.  Unfortunately, many do not take life serious enough. Their great objective is to get through life pleasurably.  On the other hand, life is also a source of joy and there are many who take it too seriously.  Seriousness and joy are not incompatible achievements but the right balance between the two make life complete.

For life to be good, we must focus our life.  An unfocused life exists when we dabble and have our hands in a lot of things.  For life to be good we must forget the past.  Blessed is the person who has a good forgetter.  For life to be good we must move forward.  Never become satisfied with yourself or where you are.

One year the Good Will Games where held in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. The Jamaican track team’s 4 x 100 relay team was favored to win the sprint relay.  However, the third leg on the team had a friend competing in a field event nearby.  While the sprinter was waiting for the baton, he looked up for a moment to watch his friend.  In the same second, the second leg ran up with the baton and ran into him.  They had a bad exchange due to lack of focus.

Discover God’s will, focus on what God has designed for you, forget anything in your past that becomes a hindrance, and press forward until you reach your God given goal.  Be blessed and enjoy the life God has given you this week!
