Sneaker Boutique & Art Gallery Opens In Greenwood On Nov 1

Silhouette Sneakers & Art a resale sneaker boutique (10 N. Greenwood Avenue, Suite D, Tulsa, Okla.) and art gallery grand opening is Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. in the historic Greenwood District. Silhouette Sneakers & Art is a highly curated retail experience that features limited edition and authentic sneakers and streetwear from brands such as Nike, Jordan, and Supreme, as well as apparel from local designers.

The owner and founder Venita Cooper, a queer woman of color from Lawton, Okla., wants to create more local access to the multibillion-dollar global secondary sneaker market.

“Brick-and-mortar sneaker resellers are bucking the trend of shuttering storefronts because we can deliver a unique and valued experience,” she said. “You walk into a sneaker shop and you can participate in the culture, from the sneakers to the music to the conversations. You get to plug in to a part of your identity and curiosity that isn’t possible in a lot of other spaces.”

The gallery side will showcase a rotating selection of street-inspired art from local and out-of-area artists. Black Moon, a local group of black artists, will open the gallery with new art pieces inspired by Greenwood’s history and culture.

The space was designed with the history of Tulsa and Greenwood in mind. The shelving, fixtures, and furniture are influenced by Art Deco style and a 24-foot brick wall towers over the space as an homage to the brick used in buildings of Black Wall Street businesses.

This summer Silhouette Sneakers & Art won the Tulsa StartUp Series Live Pitch for Food and Retail. Cooper also participated in the Black UpStart program, an Atlanta-based pop-up school for black entrepreneurs.
