Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will celebrate its 97th International Founders Day on November 12, 2019 and the 74th Alpha Xi Sigma Chapter Founders Day with the chapter theme, Continuing to be a Beacon of Light.
Sigma Gamma Rho was founded on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana and in Tulsa, Oklahoma under the leadership of the late Anita Hairston in 1945. Sigma Gamma Rho has been a firm supporter of education and scholarship, social action and improving the quality of life of its community.
The Founders Day Activities are open to all members of Sigma Gamma Rho and include: Full Chapter Meeting on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 10 am at the Northpoint Business Center, Joint Community Service Project with the Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank on November 9, 2019 at 8 am, Worship Services with Transformation Church in Bixby, Oklahoma on November 11, 2019 at 10:45 am and Founders Day Dinner at Sisserous Restaurant on November 12, 2019 at 6 p.m..
Current Officers of the Alpha Xi Sigma Chapter are: Alnetta Morris, President; Sharon Briggs, Vice President; Sylvia Muse, Secretary, Barbara Ross, Treasurer; Wyvone Marshall, Grammateus/Philo Coordinator; Barbara E. Thompson, Parliamentarian; Mary P. Walker, Chaplain; Marcene Mackey, Historian; Kaleb Logan and Nikki Warren Rhoer Club Advisors. Carolyn Thompkins is President of the Philo Affiliate and President of the Rhoer Club is Maro’Jah Stephenson. LaShonda Johnson is the Regional President and Debra Catching Smith is the International President of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.
Alpha Xi Sigma Chapter is the largest in the state of Oklahoma and has Life Members and is an award-winning chapter at the Area, Regional and International Levels for programming, leadership and community service.
Community involvement includes The Hair Initiative, National Education Fund, Operations Big Book Bag, Swim 1922, Hattie McDaniel Women’s Health and Wellness, Scholarship Presentations, Friends of the Library, Tulsa NPHC, John Hope Franklin Center Community Partners, Youth Development, Financial Literacy and others.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will continue to be a beacon of light to the Tulsa, Oklahoma and International Communities.
