MLK Tulsa will host its sixth annual Martin Luther King weekend of events beginning January 19 at 9:30 a.m. at Carver Middle School in Tulsa. MLK Executive Director Fred Jones stated, “We are truly excited about extending our weekend events this year with our MLK Art Party teaming with Ricco Wright from Black Wall Street Gallery and MLK brunch at the Greenwood Cultural Center catered by Starr Fisher with tremendous support from the city of Tulsa.”
Events are listed below with free entry to the public except for the Sunday brunch.
6th Annual MLK Tulsa Anti-Bullying Basketball Tournament
On Saturday, January 19th, 9:30 a.m. at Carver Middle School, 624 E. Oklahoma Place, Tulsa: Four Tulsa Public Schools teams will participate in the 6th Junior High School Basketball Open. The tournament will have community vendors, and an anti-bullying session with special guest speakers, special guest dance performances from Wise Moves Dance Academy and The Walt Whitman Baby Hornets, Guest DJ and free lunch for students. A continental breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m.
MLK Tulsa and Black Wall Street Gallery Art Party
On Saturday, January 19th, from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at The Black Wall Street Art Gallery located at 101 N. Greenwood Avenue, Tulsa, will have artwork featuring Beth Henly, Nicole Donis, and Michael Bulmer which will be available for purchase. There will also be light music, wine sampling, and hors d’oeuvres provided in an upscale contemporary setting.
MLK Tulsa presents: MLK “The Dream” Sunday Brunch
On Sunday, January 20th, MLK Tulsa presents “The Dream” Sunday brunch in conjunction with Black Wall Street brunch team at the Greenwood Cultural Center located at 322 N. Greenwood, Tulsa. Come out to a special MLK Sunday brunch and listen to the MLK “I Have A Dream” speech by Jamaal Dyer. The event will also feature a live painting that will be open for bidding in a silent auction and spoken word artist Vada and Nissa from Oklahoma City. Brunch will begin at 11 a.m. and the free special event will begin at 1:30 p.m.
