Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray, and now, Jalen Hurts. The former Alabama quarterback announced Wednesday that he will transfer to Oklahoma.
Hurts is the latest high-profile transfer quarterback to pick the Sooners. The Houston native was 26-2 as Alabama’s starter before losing his job to Tua Tagovailoa.
Hurts reportedly took visits to Maryland and Miami before committing to OU.
Hurts, as a graduate transfer, immediately becomes the favorite to quarterback the Sooners in 2019. Austin Kendall, who backed up Murray last season, has withdrawn from classes and is committed to leaving OU.
Redshirt freshman Tanner Mordecai and true freshman Spencer Rattler were also considered candidates to win the starting quarterback job next season given Murray’s departure.
Hurts completed 73 percent of his passes while throwing for 765 yards, eight touchdowns and two interceptions in a reserve role this season.
He threw for 48 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in his Alabama career while rushing for 1,976 yards and 23 touchdowns.
