This last Sunday, November 18th, Academy Award nominated actor Gary Busey was in town at the Circle Cinema for a book signing of his new book “Buseyisms: Gary Busey’s Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth” and a special screening of his 1991 film “Point Break”. The event was co-sponsored by The Church Studio and Magic City Books.

There were around 300 people present who had spent $35 to buy Gary’s book, meet with the actor as well as have him sign it, and received a ticket to the film “Point Break” which Mr. Busey introduced. The proceeds from the event went towards helping Circle Cinema and The Church Studio. What I witnessed during the time I was at the event really brought a lot of joy to my heart. Mr. Busey took time to talk to each of his fans and tell them a joke or listen to their stories about how his films had impacted their lives.

The room was filled with laughter and smiles as this actor, who had graduated from Tulsa’s Nathan Hale High School in 1962, took time and actually visited with his fan’s.  He never seemed to rush the fans that stood in line waiting for their chance to tell this famous actor what his films had meant to them. He sat their contently listening to their stories and telling a few of his own, all the while flashing that huge smile of his.

When asked what is “Buseyism” he replied, “What is Buseyism? I take the letters that spell a word to create a definition for the word in the truth of its deeper, dimensional meaning. I weave in my personal anecdotes along with my musings on how I live life successfully according to my experiences. Who am I, a genius, a crazy madman, to give advice?  This is not advice. I am sharing the life lessons I learned while surviving the ups and downs of almost 50 years in Hollywood, a near fatal motorcycle accident, a drug overdose, two divorces, a bankruptcy and cancer in the middle of my face. I may turn concepts you usually believe in upside down with my bizarre stories, but that comes with the dinner. These are my life lessons, my B.I.B.L.E.? Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth,” said Busey.

Gary Busey’s book “Buseyisms: Gary Busey’s Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth,” can be purchased at Magic City Books or your other favorite local or online retailers.
