Gathering Place announced today the addition of three walk around characters to the Park team. Executive Park Director Tony Moore and mascots from around Oklahoma welcomed the new ambassadors that will become a part of the Park’s programming, highlighting the many world-class attractions and activities for guests.
The three Gathering Place walk around characters include Blue the Heron, Tulsey the Turtle and a squirrel that will be up to Tulsa kids to name during a special naming contest. The contest will run from Tuesday, Oct. 23 to Tuesday, Oct. 30 and will allow kids an opportunity to leave their stamp on Gathering Place. Contestants must be 18 years or younger and have an adult submit their character name ideas on the Gathering Place website at gatheringplace.org/contest.
“Our mission at Gathering Place is to bring all Tulsans together for a shared experience of fun and inclusiveness, and our new characters will be champions of that mission,” Moore said. “The naming contest for one of our new ambassador is important as it gives kids from all corners of the Tulsa area the opportunity to get involved and have a lasting impact on the Park.”
Each character focuses on areas of programming in the Park to help guests learn and stay active during their visits. Blue the Heron focuses on environmental programming and activities in Wetland Gardens and Chapman Adventure Playground; Tulsey the Turtle champions Gathering Place’s sports programming at the SemGroup Sports Courts and BMX & Skate parks; the squirrel will show guests the passion for reading and the arts, including the Reading Tree and dancing with the Gather Round Crew.
“Our three new characters offer an opportunity to tell the Park’s story while engaging visitors in our dynamic, daily programs,” said Kirsten Hein, Vice President of Programming at Gathering Place. “Each character will give a unique perspective on the different areas and activities of Gathering Place allowing children and all visitors to explore the Park differently on every visit.”
The winner of the squirrel naming contest will be announced at a special story time at the Reading Tree on November 1.
