Kari D. Thompson, Tulsa native, was promoted to Captain of the Kansas City Police Department on May 31, 2018 at the Promotion Ceremony held at the Kansas City Regional Police Academy in Kansas City, Missouri. She is the first African American female to hold this honor.
Captain Thompson graduated from the Police Academy in June of 2003, promoted to Patrol Sergeant in November of 2011 and served as Special Victims Unit and Public Information Officer in the Media Unit.
Captain Thompson is a graduate of Southern University of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
She serves as Trustee and Board Member of Research Hospital, and Palestine Senior Center. She is a member of Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc and serves as Ivy leaf Reporter.
Captain Thompson is the daughter of Don and Barbara Thompson and the late Joyce Latimer Thompson.
Other promotions to Captain include Everett Babcock, Abigail Martinez, Luis Ortiz, Robert ‘Mike’ Schofield, and Scott Simons. Chief Richard C. Smith officiated the event.
