The Tulsa Health Department’s It’s All About Kids (IAK) school health program, Tulsa Drillers and the Anti-Bullying Collaboration invite everyone to join them on May 16 at ONEOK Field to celebrate Anti-Bullying Day!
Before the Tulsa Drillers take on the Springfield Cardinals, they will team up with IAK for a thirty-minute anti-bullying show at 10:00 a.m. This engaging presentation of moving, music and fun will teach students key ways to stop a bully with some help from Hornsby, the Tulsa Drillers mascot.
Bullying is a problem of national proportions, as the spotlight has been cast recently on a number of high-profile incidents. Recent research has shown that a growing percent of students feel unsafe at school due to direct or observed teasing, threats, bullying and other stressors.
IAK program provides an opportunities each year for thousands of students in Tulsa County public school districts to improve their knowledge, attitudes and behaviors toward nutrition and exercise through comprehensive health education. Learning healthy habits early follows them throughout their lifetime.
“In the state of Oklahoma, health education is not mandated, unfortunately,” added Charley Daniel, CHES, THD school health manager. “Bullying is a difficult topic to discuss therefore, we partner with the Tulsa Drillers in an effort to make a lasting impression that it’s not okay. We are coming together as a community to address bullying head on and provide students with the tools they need to help themselves and others.”

It’s All About Kids
Since its beginning in 2004, the Tulsa Health Department’s IAK program has provided an opportunity for thousands of school children to improve their knowledge, attitudes and behaviors toward nutrition and exercise through comprehensive health education. Learning healthy habits early follows them throughout their lifetime. Each year, the program targets Tulsa County public school districts, and hosts more than 40 informative and exciting events for parents and families. The program was recognized as a Model Practice in 2008 by the National Association for City and County Health Officials (NACCHO). It’s All About Kids partners with schools to capture valuable data in the areas of academic improvement, decrease in behavioral referrals, and increase in attendance. IAK follows the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model placing children in the center as the main focus. Tulsa Drillers
The Tulsa Drillers are a minor league baseball team based in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The team, which plays in the Texas League, is the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers major-league club. The Anti-Bullying Collaboration
PreventBullyingTulsa.org is a resource website provided by the Anti-BullyingCollaboration (ABC), a Collective Impact project of The Parent Child Center of Tulsa. The ABC is comprised of 30 cross-sector partners including education, mental-health, advocacy, parent groups and more. Issues surrounding bullying behaviors are truly complex and deserve the attention of adults and students of all ages. Our purpose is to provide Tulsa and surround communities with the necessary resources to help prevent and intervene in bullying situations for students at school or away from school.
