Leadership Oklahoma Class 31 will deepen their understanding of Oklahoma’s social services and mental health when they visit Tulsa in February.
Fifty people from across the state are participating in Leadership Oklahoma this year. The organization brings together a diverse network of leaders whose increased awareness and commitment to service energizes Oklahomans to shape our state’s growth.
The group will arrive Thursday and will spend three days in Tulsa. The goal of the Tulsa program is to provide an overview of publically funded social services in Oklahoma, as well as those offered by the non-profit sector, aimed at relieving hardships associated with poverty and reducing incarceration. The program will also examine mental health and substance abuse issues in Oklahoma, including their effect on the criminal justice system, and consider the roles played by race and bias as they relate the session topics. During their time in Tulsa, the class will have opportunities to tour A Gathering Place for Tulsa, Gilcrease Museum and sites related to the history of Black Wall Street.
