Ralph Knight, Jr. was truly surprised as Pastor Anthony Scott announced to his Sunday morning church family that a birthday celebration would be immediately following service.
Knight stated: “My sisters, (Orvalette Knight Rentie and Lenda Knight Eubanks) really got me good on this one.”
Back in 1932, when Knight was born, the president was Hebert Hoover and gas was 18 cents a gallon. New York Radio City Music Hall had just opened, and Duke Ellington wrote “It Don’t Mean a Thing, if it Ain’t Got That Swing,” marking the beginning of the Swing Era.
A new car was about $540. A few famous people born in 1932 were Dick Gregory, Johnny Cash, Debbie Reynolds, Yvonne Brathwaite Burke, Nichelle Nichols, Elizabeth Taylor, Little Richard, Loretta Lynn, Andrew Young and Patsy Cline.
Knight spoke of a few of these moments pointed out by his niece Tori Eubanks as he thanked all the attendees to his birthday celebration.
