On Saturday evening, Nov. 18, 2017, Chloe Smallwood and Brett Anderson were crowned Miss Fashionetta and Mr. Fashion at Alpha Kappa Alpha’s (AKA) 2017 Scholarship Cotillion which was themed “Celebrating a Royal Affair.”
There were five contestants who participated; four seniors, and one junior, of which three are young women and two young men. The competition included fashion, Sunday dress, and casual wear; fundraising, and talent.
About Chloe Smallwood
Smallwood is the daughter of Micah and Sharon Smallwood and is a junior at Booker T. Washington High School. In the talent portion of the contest, Smallwood performed a song in Japanese in a lovely Soprano voice.
About Bret Anderson
Anderson is the son of Brett and Michelle Anderson, and is a senior at Riverfield Country Day School. Anderson sang a Justin Bieber song in the talent show.
About The Event
The event was held at the University of Tulsa Allen Chapman Activity Center. The event was well attended. It was a family affair with grandparents, parents, high schoolers through preschoolers. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun. This event is a biennial.
About Alpha Kapa Alpha
AKA’s current president is Tracye Love Chandler. The Tulsa AKA’s have been continuing the tradition of Miss Fashionetta/Mr. Fashion since the 1960s, and through the years, hundreds of thousands of dollars in college scholarships have been awarded to local high school students.

Adriane Baker and Jonathan Harris, Miss Fashionetta and Mr. Fashion of 2016, were on hand to take their last walk and crown Smallwood and Anderson.
