The Oklahoma Eagle’s reporter Fred Jones spoke with Jen Saab National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, Director of Communications of the NAIA in Kansas City, Missouri yesterday. This is the official statement that has been sent out regarding the eligibility of the St. Gregory’s current student/athletes.

St. Gregory’s University (Shawnee, Okla.) announced on November 8, 2017, that it will suspend operations at the end of the 2017 fall semester. All athletics will cease immediately.

Effective November 9, NAIA coaches may contact St. Gregory’s student-athletes to initiate a conversation about transferring. The NAIA bylaws regarding notification will be waived pursuant to a statement issued by St. Gregory’s University.

No special provisions for seasons of competition or terms of attendance apply in this situation.

Student-athletes who participated in the fall sports season will be charged a season of competition. For any winter or spring sports that may have already begun competition, as long as the sport has completed less than half its regular schedule, student-athletes will not be charged a season of competition.

St. Gregory’s student-athletes are free to transfer without having to sit out the required 16-week residency period if they transfer by December 2018. These students must meet all other eligibility requirements in order to be able to compete.

The Sooner Athletic Conference has waived its standard inter-conference transfer regulations for student-athletes who transfer within the conference, meaning there are no transfer restrictions for St. Gregory’s student who transfer to another Sooner school.
