Ty Walker was born into the family food service industry, he is the son of Tulsa’s own Wanda J. Walker. Walker remembers his mother’s first restaurant: “My mother started Wanda J’s in 1974 on what was back then called “Cowboy Corner” which was on Apache and Peoria. It was where all the black cowboys hung out at.”
Walker graduated from McLain Class of ‘83, where he was a wrestler for 2½ years. Walker is a college football fanatic with great appreciation for coaches like “Mack Brown and Les Miles,” he states.
Last weekend Walker threw out the first pitch for the Tulsa Drillers. He stated, “Drillers Club House Manager Brady Woods came to eat in the restaurant and asked me a few questions, and we became good friends, and he elected me to throw out the first pitch for last week’s game.”
Sometimes when people frequent Wanda J’s there are great discussions about social justice. Walker stated, “The way I look at the current leadership is its one man verses many others, there is no cohesiveness to bring America together.”
When asked to say something encouraging to the millennials with all the racial tension going on, Walker said, “I would encourage them to love themselves, racism is never going anywhere. It’s been here forever, it’s bred from home not from the streets, it all begins at home.”
Wanda J’s Next Generation Restaurant will begin delivery service to the downtown area soon. They are currently using an app which is called “OrderOnMyWay” Tulsa Ordering. It is available in Apple and Google App Store.
Enclosing, Walker said, “service to the people and the community has always been the Wanda J’s way.” Wanda J’s Next Generation Restaurant is located at 111 N. Greenwood Avenue in Tulsa.
