Anna Mae (Thompson) Steele passed away on May 28, 2017 at the age of 96 in Parker, Colo. Anna was born on September 13, 1920 to Mattye Cramer and Ishmael Thompson in Bellville, Texas, and moved to Tulsa, Okla. at an early age. She was raised at Greenwood and Pine where her mother, owned a beauty shop and her uncle, Agrippa Cramer owned the Phillips 66 gas station. She attended Booker T. Washington High School where she was Homecoming Queen, class of 1938.

Anna Mae attended Wiley College, the historically black, liberal arts college in Marshall, Texas, and was an active alumna in the San Francisco Bay area for many years.

Anna Mae was married to Edward L. Steele in Reno, Nev. and remained married for 40+ years. She retired from US Naval Supply and was a housewife while married.  She enjoyed sewing and upholstery. Anna Mae joined Jones Memorial Church and was a dedicated member for over 30 years. She was financial secretary for the church’s finance committee for more than 20 years. She also volunteered at the Jones Memorial Credit Union.

Anna Mae will be missed by her first cousins Homizelle Alexander, Barbara Ann Armah, June Cowherd, Katie Ann Cramer, Mae Sue Cramer, Malcom Cramer, Gil Cramer, Jessee Mosely, and many second and third cousins, nieces; Glenda Hudson, Sherrie Johnson, Nyla Thompson, Sandra Christian and Kathy Pope, Grandniece Tia Johnson, Great nieces Sarah and Michela Johnson, Ebony Johnson, Tammy Pope, her nephews; Isaac Hudson and Alvin Williams, Ed Frazier, her grandnephews; Jovon Johnson, Tommy Pope, Brandon Hudson, and Skyler Hudson. Anna Mae will also be truly missed by her many friends of 50+ years and more: Gloria Jeggetts, Lillie Hereford, Gloria Howard, Hazel Jean Owens and many more.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Jones Memorial United Methodist Church, in San Francisco, Calif., and a private interment was held at Cypress Lawn Mortuary, Colma, Calif.
