All Souls encourages our members and friends to participate in the Opening Ceremonies which will take place on the eve of the 1921 Race Massacre, 96 years ago. 

Soulful Journey: Black History in America through Music will be included in the symposium’s opening ceremonies. 

5:30 p.m. | Walk for Reconciliation
  • Community walks to reflect on the atrocities of the past while taking a symbolic path of healing and unity for the future.  (MEET AT RECONCILIATION PARK)

6:00 p.m. | Greenwood Experience: A Living History Tour

  • Tour the streets of Greenwood Ave. as they appeared in 1921. Listen to shop keepers and citizens recount stories of life at that time.

6:45 p.m. | Soulful Journey  (Greenwood Cultural Center)

  • All Souls exclusive production of Soulful Journey for the 2017 JHF Symposium explores how music has shaped survival, communication, and social change. 

Following Soulful Journey | Dr. Kimberly Ellis, Keynote

  • With a dissertation on the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, Dr. Ellis promises a lively, interactive, and inspirational address regarding Reconciliation through Art and Culture.

My Brother’s Keeper-Tulsa Seeks To Transform Black Boys Into Men

Valerie Vaughn began I AM THE CHANGE project after a lifetime of witnessing injustices in the criminal justice system, exposure to systemic racism, and the unjustified police killings of unarmed black men and women. The project evolved into a proactive initiative and community-relations campaign to address relationships in society along culturally diverse and racial lines.

Valerie Vaughn and Bonita James will present I AM THE CHANGE at the JHF Symposium.
The image of Officer Richard Hammett with A.J. Bussey will be included in the Symposium’s art gallery.
