(TULSA, OK) – May 25, 2017 – In order to help address the significant nutritional needs of children during the summer, the Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program for children.
Free meals will be made available to children 18 years of age and under, and to persons over 18 years of age who are determined by a State educational agency or a local public educational agency of a State to be mentally or physically handicapped and who participate in a public or nonprofit private school program established for the mentally or physically handicapped.
Meal service will be Monday – Friday beginning June 1, 2017 and ending July 31, 2017. Meals will be provided at the sites listed below:
Cornerstone Community Ctr. 4122 W. 55th Pl. 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Edurec Youth & Family Fun Ctr. 5424 N. Madison Ave. 12:45 p.m.– 1:15 p.m.*

Kendall-Whittier Library 21 S. Lewis Ave. 11:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

“In Oklahoma one out of every four children are food insecure, and for families already struggling to make ends meet the lack of meals available from schools presents additional challenges,” stated Eileen Bradshaw, the Food Bank’s executive director. “This program will help fill a void created as those school meals are not available; helping parents meet the nutritional needs of their children is the strength of this program.”
“While the Food Bank has participated in Summer Feeding programs in the past, this will be our first year to prepare meals in our own Culinary Center,” said John McCarthy, director of community initiatives for the Food Bank. “The meals will be provided without regard to race, color, national origin, age, sex, or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.”
