The Jackson Elementary mission statement states: A place of learning that provides a quality learning experience for every student, every day, without exception. Jackson Elementary will provide a safe, nurturing, and encouraging learning environment that will focus on results, celebrate successes, and promote a high standard for all.
Angela Marie Silmon reflects the true essence of this statement with her relentless desire to teach and equip her students with the necessary educational and communication tools to succeed. She works with each student at his individual level to prepare him for current learning as well as for the rest of his life.
Angela Silmon is the Jackson Elementary Teacher of the Year. Angela stated, “I knew I wanted to be a teacher when I was 12 years old. Me and my sister would play school, and I always wanted to be the Teacher.” She also said, “I love what I do, and I’ve been able to do it for 29 years now. I often feel like a second parent to so many of my students. I’ll do whatever it takes, even if it means combing their hair to make them feel better and apply themselves. I’m from the Tulsa North community and fully understand my students and can relate to them on so many levels. It gives me so much satisfaction when I see my students succeed.”
Silmon is a graduate of Booker T. Washington Sr. High School and received her college education at The University of Oklahoma where she majored in Elementary Education.
Education philanthropist, Nancy McDonald, said of Silmon “Ms. Silmon is a teacher Par excellent. She cares deeply about her students, paying attention to each child’s needs. Her kiddos love her and in her kind patient way, helps each one to grow and learn. Angie is the first to volunteer to do the extra tasks at the school, whether it be an all school program or helping organize a party or sponsor an enrichment program for the students. She is an A PLUS PLUS teacher!”
Teaching colleague Robert E. Lee stated of Silmon “Ms. Silmon is a true joy to work with. Her undying dedication to the kids of Jackson Elementary never ceases to amaze me. She is well deserving of this accolade”.
Madolyn Love-Thompson stated:, “Angela, I know how hard you work, and the extra hours you put in, and have heard you speak of over and over how much you love teaching, and love your students. So, what you do comes from the heart. Congratulations! It is well deserved.”
